You cannot imagine the devastation a mother and father feel to lose their first-born child like this. We are a very close family and it is impossible to put into words how we have been left feeling. I can’t express the pain we are all going through.

Husband killed in double shooting

A businessman died and his wife was left with gunshot wounds after a double shooting at their Cornwall home.

Adam Hustler, 41, from Porth Kea, near Truro, was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital following the attack on Saturday evening.

His wife Amanda's condition is not currently known.

A 23-year-old man, believed to be the former boyfriend of the couple's daughter, was arrested and taken to hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

He was a loving husband and father who thought the world of his wife and daughters

Police were called to Mr Hustler's house in the hamlet of Porth Kea at about 2150 BST.

A police spokesman said: "On arrival officers found a man and a woman had sustained injuries.

"Both injured parties were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, Truro, where the man died of his injuries."

In a statement Mr Hustler's family said: "We are shocked by these terrible and very unexpected events.

"Friends and family are providing loving support and comforting those affected.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and their two daughters at this most difficult time."

'Christian values'

Mr Hustler was managing director of local drain clearance firm, Clear Flow. He and his wife are Jehovah's Witnesses.

Tim Mears, a friend and fellow Jehovah's Witness, said: "He was a loving husband and father, a generous and caring person, who thought the world of his wife and daughters.

"He was very thoughtful and always ready to help and support others, when they needed help.

"He's a great loss to all who knew him and especially those who shared his Christian values."

The 23-year-old man was detained at a property near Penzance at about 0500 BST on Sunday, then taken to hospital with self-inflicted head wounds, said police.

Detectives said they had recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, but gave no details of it.

Three dozen officers, including trained negotiators, were involved in the operation.

A young woman who was at the Hustler's home in Porth Kea at the time of the shooting, and is believed to be the couple's daughter, will be interviewed by detectives as a witness.
